Advantages of the
3IN1FEEDERS' focus is to increase the production of farms with lower inputs. We do this by:
Reducing injury to stock:
Alternative creep feeding methods can cause stock injury as they get stuck. This issue may lead to animal health and financial repercussions. The 3IN1FEEDERS Creep Panel design works off the skull size of the sheep. As ewes and lambs have very different size heads, the creep panel can be set so stock do not get stuck.
Supplement mothers and offspring with the most productive amounts using the same feeder:
When mothers and offspring are fed together, the mothers inevitably muscle the young out of the way. 3IN1FEEDERS have feeding access on both sides of the feeder. Each side can be independently set so that ewes can be fed a small ration on one side while lambs are fed an ad-lib ration on the other side. Other than using the 1 feeder for several purposes, this trains offspring to eat from the 3IN1FEEDERS from birth. Lambs and calves will often have their heads in the trough from a few days old.
Alternative methods of creep and supplement feeding often involve dealing with buckets of
25kg bags of meal. 3IN1FEEDERS allow farmers to feed bulk amounts with Front End Loader buckets
or dumpy bags.
Another issue with feeding in small quantities means that it can be a daily task. Feeding in bulk may mean that the 3IN1FEEDERS may only require feeding once a month.
Other feeders often have the trough full of meal. The stock often ignore this feed because the meal in the hopper is fresh and more desirable. The lick system ensures that any meal that falls into the trough is eaten straight away as the stock find this easier to access than out of the lick area. This means that the trough is always licked clean and all feed is utilised.
When rain falls on meal that is sitting in a trough, it is often wasted. 3IN1FEEDERS holds the feed between the Advanced Adjustment System so only a small amount of feed may get wet. The feed in this area is minimal and stock often lick the feed out before it restricts the flow.
Increase weaning rates:
Ewes and lambs are often taken out of the shed a few days after lambing and then supplemented on pasture. This supplementing results in ewes running off to consume the supplement, leaving the lambs behind and susceptible to mis-mothering.
Feeding the rumen more efficiently:
Current supplement feeding methods is often done once a day. 3IN1FEEDERS provide a constantly available supplement. Stock will often come to a 3IN1FEEDERS 6-8 times/day. This ensures the microbes in the rumen are fed regularly and the meal is fully utilised.
How 3IN1FEEDERS sets itself apart from competitors:
Advanced Adjustment System
The Advanced Adjustment System gives the user superior control in rationing feed. This design is unique to 3IN1FEEDERS. The feed ration can easily be adjusted while the feeder is full of grain. The method of outflow requires stock to lick the feed out of the grove between the 2 adjusters. Research has shown that the stock lick for 5-10 minutes and then graze when the feeder is used in a supplement situation. The licking period is limited because the livestock use the saliva from their tongue to get the feed out of the groove and the saliva decreases with progressive licks. Little feed actually falls in the trough. The diagrams give an indication of how different settings can change the rationing ability. This control makes 3IN1FEEDERS suitable for ad lib feeding but more importantly, ideal for mobs of sheep and cattle that have access to paddock feed and are supplemented by grain and pellets. The Advanced Adjustment System can be closed down to a ration of 200 gram/day for sheep and 2kg/day for cattle.
No other feeder can you be used for ad lib, creep and rationing feeding. No other feeder can be used to accurately ration feed.
Consumption Sticker: The sticker on the lower side panel shows the regulation table, giving you an indication of sheep and cattle intake. The regulation table is a guide only. It is a good starting point for farmers. It is important for farmers to keep track of the amount of feed being consumed and make modifications to where the adjusters are located. The sticker also has a number of instructions for using the feeder.
Pointer and Dot System 3IN1FEEDERS come with an pointer and dot system which allow the user to set the adjusters accurately and control the ration. The systems correspond to the consumption table so the user has a starting guide as to how much the stock will consume. The Adjuster Gauges (permanently attached to the feeder) have two triangular pointers on them. The arrows line up with dot systems on the Upper Adjusters and Lower Adjusters.
Prevents stock from gorging
A common problem farmers have with finishing stock for market is that the stock can over consume and suffer from acidosis. 3IN1FEEDERS eliminates this as it allows stock to be introduced to the feed at a safe low ration and then progressively increased by widening the adjustment. It is important for farmers to understand that feed does not need to be falling into the through before the stock can receive an ad-lib ration.
Despite the adjusters being positioned in the most restricted setting, some farmers have experienced stock walking along the trough of the feeder with their tongue in the licking area (between the adjusters). The Adjuster Guard is an attachment to the lick feeder that makes it physically impossible for the stock to continue this behaviour. The Adjuster Guard slides into adjuster gauges at either end of the trough, and behind the upper adjuster brace/s, making it easy to slide in and out when the feed area needs to be cleaned.
Trough is always empty
Stock will always prefer fresh feed. For ad-lib feeding, 3IN1FEEDERS work best if licking the feed from between the adjustment is slightly harder than eating the feed from the trough. This ensures that any feed that falls in the trough will be consumed before accessing the feed from the licking area. This ensures feed doesn’t build up in the trough and get wasted.
